"This is in the running for local garage-rock album of the year. Singer Jennifer D'Angora is like a primal Joan Jett with a punky touch of Patti Smith and the Ramones. Guitarist JJ Rassler is known for his heyday with punkers DMZ, but this band represents a tremendous revival of spirit for him. The original songs are strong, but so are the cover tunes as the band dives into the Animals's "Outcast" and two Barry/Greenwich songs, "Out in the Streets" and a juiced-up "Dum Dum Ditty." Victory Motel, Boston MA - Founding members of local rock 'n' roll quartet The Downbeat 5, JJ Rassler and Jennifer D'Angora, were last seen shaking hands with Abbey Lounge Records co-founder Malibu Lou Mansdorf and Producer, Andrew Mazzone of Hi-N-Dry Records, creating a partnership to release The Downbeat 5's long-awaited follow up to 2003 's highly acclaimed 'Ism (Sympathy For the Record Industry )... Victory Motel is a gritty, powerful, no-frills rock n roll rampage that hs no boundaries. Taking it's cues from '60's Beat and Soul and 70's inspired Punk and Garage, The Downbeat 5 create their own wall of sound filled with foot-stomping beats, three-part harmonies, and JJ's ripping lead guitar riffs accenting Jennifer's sensual vocal screams and primal rhythm section featuring Mike Yocco on bass and Eric Almquist on drums.
